Blindekuh is the world’s first dark restaurant, located in Zurich, Switzerland. Dark as in pitch dark, where you can’t see your own hands or the table or the dishes. And the restaurant staff is either blind or partially sighted.

The astonishing thing is that Blindekuh – German for Blind Man’s buff and literally translated means Blind Cow, is doing spectacularly well.
Blindekuh offers conventional menus in the reception, along with a huge one projected on a wall, and Braille menus in the dining room. Staff will lead you to your table, and if you need something, you call out your waiter’s name.
People come here often for the experience, and this makes Blindekuh one of the popular tourist attractions in Zurich.
So what about the food? The menu is seasonal, and offers three choices each of appetizers, entrées and desserts, with prices about the same as other restaurants in Zurich. Try the fish soup, which comes with saffron, spinach and rice with a heavenly aroma. It tastes even better if you stop poking your food around with your fork and use your fingers.
The bar serves drinks and snacks, in case you just want a quickie and not a full course meal. You’ll need to make reservations well in advance, since it’s a popular spot.
